World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is celebrated on May 17 every year. Enabling the positive use of Artificial Intelligence for All is the theme of WTISD-18 and will focus on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accelerate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As the member of ITU, Nepal Telecommunications Authority organized a program, to mark the WTISD, focused on the role and application of Artificial Intelligence to achieve the sustainable Development goals in Nepal.
The event was held in Russian Center of Science and Culture, Kamalpokhari from 11 AM to 2 PM.
The Chief Guest of the program was Honorable Gokul Prasad Banskota, State Minister, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The Special Guests were Honorable Min Bahadur Shahi, Member, National Planning Commission and Mr. Mohan Man Gurung, Secretary, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
The opening note of the program was delivered by Mr. Min Prasad Aryal, Director NTA. It was followed by brief key notes on AI from Dr. Sameer Maskey, CEO – FuseMachines and Adj Professor – Columbia University and Dr. Hemanta Shrestha, Founder – WiseYak. Afterward, the chief guest and special guests address the audience. The formal program was concluded by Mr. Digambar Jha, Chairman, NTA.
The formal event was followed by the panel discussion, which was moderated by Mr. Ananda Raj Khanal, Senior Director, NTA and panelists include:
